Plan of Contents

Here I have listed the content I will include on my front page and contents page, ready to transfer to my actual magazine during construction.

  • We talk lyrics with Rise Against! (This meets my audience request of lyrical meaning in interviews)

  • Foo Fighters - Is the new album another 'Wasting Light?' (This continues the popular inclusion of album reviews in rock magazines.)

  • Pennywise - The legends tell us their favourite tracks in modern punk. (This meets my audience request for playlist ideas, as well as comparing old and new bands)

  • Gerard Way - The Ex-MCR Frontman tells us why he doesn't regret the breakup. (This meets my audience request for the personal lives of artists)

  • Muse- Matt Bellamy explains why EDM and Rock were made for each other! (This article is designed to cause debate, encouraging readers to buy the magazine and investigate)

  • Gerard Way - The Ex-MCR Frontman tells us why he doesn't regret the breakup. (This meets my audience request for the personal lives of artists)

  • Canterbury - Mike Sparks thanks the fans for nine years of endless support! (This creates a personal link between the artist and the reader, encouraging fans of the band to buy the magazine.)

  • Radiohead - (This meets my audience request for the personal lives of artists)

  • PLUS! Bring me the Horizon, The Swimmers and more! (This shows that the magazine is packed with articles, and suggests that there are secrets to be found inside by not listing every article.)

QUEEN ANNE'S REVENGE

The dawn of a devil! Madeleine tells all!

Main Story

I chose an interview of this type as my main story largely because each cover interview I have looked at features a historical element to some degree. This sort of depth is expected from a main article. I also refer to the artist as a 'devil,' playing up her musical persona and making her seem almost mythical. I do not reveal too much information about the interview, and by saying 'tells all,' I leave the content vague, making readers want to buy the magazine and look inside to answer any questions they might ask. By using exclamation marks, I ensure the article seems exciting, and for a similar reason the band name, 'Queen Anne's Revenge,' is capitalised.

I decided to focus on a punk band for the main article, as this is my area of most knowledge, but for the cover lines there is a slightly greater variety in content, featuring Foo Fighters, The Swimmers, Bring Me The Horizon and Gerard Way, who are not punk artists. The name, Queen Anne's Revenge, is taken from Blackbeard's infamous pirate ship, and this theme works well with a gothic/punk aesthetic.

  • Rise Against

  • Tim McIlrath explains the meaning behind 'Make It Stop,' and the reason he played it in Brixton last month.  (This meets my audience request of lyrical meaning in interviews)

  • Foo Fighters

  • We review their eigth album, but certainly not their last! With inside news on their latest project, we aim to keep you up-to-date! (This continues the popular inclusion of album reviews in rock magazines, as well as meeting the constant demand for information about new projectts by the fans.)

  • Pennywise

  • Jim and crew have been pretty busy themselves, but that hasn't stopped them listening to some up-and-coming punk and giving us the lowdown! (This meets my audience request for playlist ideas, as well as comparing old and new bands)

  • Gerard Way

  • MCR went through a lot together. Four studio albums, a war with The Daily Mail... yet Gerard Way still feels that the break up was the right thing. He tells us why... (This meets my audience request for the personal lives of artists)

  • List of bands at the bottom of the page: The Swimmers, Bring Me The Horizon, Canterbury, Paramore, The Pretty Reckless, LostAlone, Taking Back Sunday. (This shows that the magazine is packed with articles, and suggests that there are secrets to be found inside by not listing every article in detail.)

  • Free! Queen Anne's Revenge posters (This free giveaway makes prospective buyers feel like they are getting a better deal.)

  • Radiohead

  • Thom Yorke hasn't been lounging around all this time; he's been working on some pretty exciting stuff, and here at 0.26, we might just know what that stuff is... (This meets one of my audience expectations by looking at the personal lives of artists)

  • Muse

  • With the backlash received from some fans following 'The Second Law,' you might think that Matt Bellamy had learned his lesson, but in fact he wants to continue as he has bee, and in this exclusive 0.26 interview tells us what his crazy, crazy mind is thinking. (This article provides the issue with some controversy, which is bound to bring in more readers. I saw similar articles to this in my Kerrang! analysis, such as the one that asked if a band were 'heroes or sellouts.')

  • James Selway

  • As the UK's number one solo rock artist, James Selway is full of surprises, one of which being his interest in romantic comedies. Read more in our four-page interview! (This meets one of my audience expectations by looking at the personal lives of artists, and anchors the magazine to the country of sale by mentioning that he is a big UK artist)

  • Queen Anne's Revenge

  • Madeleine Moore has always been something of an enigma, but she revealed to us a different side to her personality. Read the full interview! (This meets one of my audience expectations by looking at the personal lives of artists)

Contents page

I also decided to include an editorial relating to the time of publication, which was in January 2015. As such, the editorial deals with topics based around the new year, as well as a review of 2014, to keep the magazine current.

Happy new year!

And what a year 2014 was!

Secret Foo Fighters gigs!

That killer performance from

Rise Against at Brixton! Perhaps

most importantly, though, there

was Bottled Up, the insanely

popular debut album from Kent

punk rockers Queen Anne’s

Revenge. I had the absolutely

incredible opportunity to talk to

the lead vocalist and bassist for

this truly inspirational trio, and I

have to say it was one of the most

fascinating conversations I’ve had

to date. I hope you find it just as

interesting. To the right, you’ll find

a selection of our favourite albums

released in the last year, a selection

of the best 2014 had to offer!

Myself and everyone else

here at 0.26 would like to wish

you guys a fantastic, rocking

2015! It’s shaping up to be a great year.

Photos for contents page

I obesrved in my research that live concert photos were popular on contents pages in rock magazines. As such, I went to two concerts and took a range of photographs, selecting the ones below for use on my contents page. A live image is often used for the main image on a contents page, so I have chosen to do this also.
