'After'
I very much enjoyed using a different environment and some practical effects in 'Downpour,' and wanted to try something slightly different involving these elements. I recently took a holiday to Spain, and while there I had the opportunity to use a desert environment. I decided to purchase some cheap toys at local stores, and photograph them in a post-apocalytic/post-humanity environment, where the shells of the vehicles were all that was left to evidence human presence. Ideally, I would have liked to add some toy animals to the mix, to show a living world without people, but I could not find any of a small enough scale.

I loved the lens flare in this image, as I felt it added to the desert feel of the piece. Increasing the clarity slider in Lightroom really helped to accentuate this. I also felt the decision to frame the aircraft from a distance and from below helped to make it feel larger than it actually was.

This shot, taken using a small DIY paper model I purchased, is one of my favourites in the shoot. I kicked up some dust to give the impression of a freshly-collapsed building, and the stones placed on the upper balcony give the illusion that the ceiling has caved in. I also especially like the unsettling canted angle and the shadowing of the pillars, which helps to make the piece feel more 'real.' I framed the building from below, giving it a false sense of grand scale.

In this image, I simply came in much closer to the nose of the plane, which made it feel quite a lot larger, as though I had struggled to fit the entire aircraft in the frame.
