Black Gold

While stuck for inspiration one saturday afternoon, I spotted two  small objects sitting on my shelf, souvenirs from past holidays. One was a small metal model of the Eiffel Tower, the other a plastic rendition of the Empire State building. The two of these sitting side by side struck me as quite funny; the nations they come from are very different after all, and this is what inspired the shoot below. I thought about the most important differences between how the countries in question operated, and one point I immediately thought of was renewable energy; France  is largely converting to green sources of energy and nuclear power, the results of which are far less dire for the atmosphere than burning fossil fuels. I decided to create a photo shoot exploring the consequences of America's fossil fuel consumption, using the metaphor of it drowning in its own oil.
