Downpour (Development)

The Originals

Whilst the images cames out exactly as I had hoped for this shoot, I knew from the outset that I would need to make some significant edits in order to achieve the effect I had planned out in my head. The image below is a prime example of how the images looked before editing; overly colourful, but roughly correct in terms of exposure.

Whilst strictly colour-corrective, the edits I had to make on this shoot were significant. I took some luminance and saturation out of the images in Lightroom, and then increased the clarity and exposure ever so slightly to really bring out the droplets of 'rain' I had created within the images using a spray bottle. The setup itself for this shoot consisted of a small plastic tray with flat pieces of mud arranged on it to create a diorama of sorts; I specifically chose a muddy environment as it reacted nicely to the water, creating puddles and swirls and giving the images a truly 'alive' and physical feel. I worked with NEF files to give me better results when making colour and exposure alterations.
