War Games
Following my 'Toy Soldier's Funeral' shoot, I decided I wanted to work with the toy soldiers some more, and elected to photograph them in war-based scenarios this time. However, I decided to make these scenarios horrific scenes of the aftermath of combat, something one would not usually find in a child's game of toy soldiers. For these photos, I used a wide range of colour schemes and Lightroom tweaks, as I wanted to ensure that each photo stood as a powerful piece on its own; I tried tweak each photo to elicit a different response from the viewer. Two of my personal favourite pieces from this shoot are 'Burners' and 'Surrender,' analyses for both of which can be found below.

After accidentally discovering that toy soldiers are extremely flammable, I decided to produce a horrific image of a man burning to death as he exits a tank, a harsh reminder of the horror of war and a juxtaposition with the innocence of the toys. I removed all colours except the orange, to draw attention to it as well as to give the image a bleak atmosphere.

The shallow depth-of-field gave this image a sense of movement and dynamism, which I found lended itself to the chaotic moment I was trying to depict; the soldiers seem to be recoiling from the head coming from the burning soldier.

I personally felt this was one of the weaker images in this shoot, but I liked certain elements, such as how the Jeep warped as though after an impact when I held a match to it.
